Distance Caregiving Often Requires Local Oversight

Dear Carol: My dad has advanced Parkinson's disease. He needs to use a walker, is incontinent, and has a hard time communicating. My mom was his caregiver for years but she recently had a stroke. Now they are both in the same nursing home under Medicaid. Mom is depressed. She says is from the stroke but I think could be situational. Even with his problems, Dad likes being with people and they both enjoy old friends who stop by.
